Conflict of Interest

Board of Trustees

1. Financial or Personal Gain

You (or your business) could financially benefit from a decision the board is making

e.g., your company wants to provide paid services to the charity such as printing, web design, or catering.

You receive payment from a supplier or partner the charity is considering using.

You have financial interests in a company bidding for charity work.

2. Family or Close Personal Relationships

A family member or close friend works for — or wants to work for — Meredith’s Mission.

A family member runs a business that might be contracted by the charity.

A close friend is in line to receive a grant or paid opportunity from the charity.

3. Governance or Leadership Overlap

You sit on the board of another charity or organisation whose interests might conflict with ours

e.g., another local charity competing for the same funding streams.

You hold a senior role in an organisation that could influence decisions about partnerships, referrals or funding.

4. Conflicts of Loyalty

You have strong ties to another organisation that might influence your impartiality

e.g., you work for an NHS Trust or business where decisions might favour your employer over the charity.

You personally support a project or idea that benefits a group you’re connected to, even if it’s not the best decision for the charity.

5. Use of Charity Information for External Benefit

You have access to confidential charity information that could benefit another organisation you’re involved in.

You are part of a competing project or business that could use the charity’s strategies or resources

6. Personal Circumstances Affecting Decision-Making

You or your family would benefit directly from a service or support the charity provides.

A personal issue makes it difficult to be impartial on a specific agenda item (e.g., funding decisions affecting someone you know).
