Trustee - Voluntary Role
Location: Dorset / Remote
Role: Charity Trustee (Volunteer)
Commitment: Approx. 6–8 meetings per year plus occasional strategic input
Meredith's Mission is a growing, community-led charity supporting children and families affected by childhood cancer. As we enter our next phase of development, we are strengthening our Board to ensure we grow sustainably, ethically, and with long-term impact.
We are seeking strategic trustees who can offer insight, challenge, and networks — not day-to-day delivery
The role of a trustee at Meredith’s Mission
Trustees at Meredith’s Mission provide strategic oversight and governance, helping to shape direction, manage risk, and support the charity’s long-term vision.
Trustees do not deliver services, run projects, manage social media, or act as unpaid staff. Operational delivery sits with staff, contractors, and volunteers.
Skills and experience we are particularly seeking
We are especially interested in applicants with experience in one or more of the following areas:
Strategic Fundraising & Income Development
- Experience planning sustainable income strategies
- Understanding of grant funding, trusts and foundations, or corporate giving
- Ability to advise on funding mix, timing, and risk
- Confidence asking strategic questions about financial resilience and growth
- (This role does not involve writing grant applications or running fundraising campaigns.)
Strategic Marketing, Communications & PR
- Experience in senior-level marketing, communications, or public relations
- Ability to advise on brand positioning, reputation, and messaging
- Understanding of media, partnerships, and public narrative
- Experience supporting organisations through growth or increased visibility
- (This role does not involve content creation or managing social media.)
Services, Partnerships & Systems Thinking
- Experience in health, education, family support, or community services
- Ability to think strategically about service design, referral pathways, and partnerships
- Understanding of how charities sit within wider support systems
- Confidence advising on what a charity should — and should not — deliver.
- (This role does not involve direct family support or casework.)
What we’re looking for in all trustees
- A strong commitment to the mission and values of Meredith’s Mission
- Ability to think strategically and independently
- Willingness to provide constructive challenge and support
- Integrity, good judgement, and collaborative working style
- Eligibility to act as a charity trustee under UK law
Previous trustee experience is welcome but not required.
Why join Meredith’s Mission?
- Be part of a values-led charity at a pivotal point in its growth
- Help shape long-term support for families affected by childhood cancer
